Ayurveda is a discipline of the Upaveda or "auxiliary knowledge" in Vedic tradition. The origins of Ayurveda are also found in Atharvaveda, which contains 114 hymns and incantations described as magical cures for disease. There are various legendary accounts of the origin of Ayurveda, e.g. that it was received by Dhanvantari (or Divodasa) from Brahma. Developed by Ancient Sages and Rishi-Munis, Ayurveda is the most efficient medicinal technology for the well being of a human.
The Charaka Saṃhitā or Compendium of Charaka is a Sanskrit text on Ayurveda (Indian traditional medicine). Along with the Suśruta-saṃhitā, it is one of the two foundational Hindu texts of this field that have survived from Indian Subcontinent.
The pre-2nd century CE text consists of eight books and one hundred twenty chapters. It describes ancient theories on the human body, etiology, symptomology, and therapeutics for a wide range of diseases. The Charaka Samhita also includes sections on the importance of diet, hygiene, prevention, medical education, the teamwork of a physician, nurse, and patient necessary for recovery to health.
Chyavanprash is an ancient formulation and product. Various Indian holy books like Mahabharata, Puranas etc., relate that Ashwini Kumar brothers, the twins, who were Raja Vaidya (Royal Physicians) to Devas during Vedic times, first prepared this formulation for Chyavana Rishi at his Ashram on Dhosi Hill near Narnaul, Haryana, India, hence the name Chyavanprash. The first historically documented formula for chyavanprash appears in the Charaka Samhita, the ancient Ayurvedic treatise from the early first millennium BCE.
In Sushruta Samhita (Sushruta's Compendium), Sushruta wrote that Dhanvantari, Hindu god of Ayurveda, incarnated himself as a king of Varanasi and taught medicine to a group of physicians, including Sushruta. Ayurveda therapies have varied and evolved over more than two millennia. Therapies are typically based on complex herbal compounds, minerals, and metal substances (perhaps under the influence of early Indian alchemy or rasa Shastra). Ancient Ayurveda texts also taught surgical techniques, including rhinoplasty, kidney stone extractions, sutures, and the extraction of foreign objects.
Naturopathy or naturopathic medicine is a form of alternative medicine that is "natural", "non-invasive", and "self-healing". The practice of Naturopathy is based on a belief in the body's ability to heal itself through special vital energy or force guiding bodily processes internally.
Naturopaths aim to prevent illness through stress reduction and changes to diet and lifestyle.
